Friday Favorites

It's finally Friday, but more importantly, it's officially summer break for everyone in our house.  Well, not for Mark...but hey, somebody's got to bring home the bacon.  But, for the rest of our family, we will be turning our alarms off and enjoying the lazy days of summer around here.

Here are a five of my favorite things from this week (and a few from last week, too because I didn't post last Friday).

BLOG LIFE:

My blogs were on two opposite ends of the spectrum this week.  On Monday, I wrote about Memorial Day and my favorite veteran, my granddad.  Check out Monday's post to hear about my granddad's struggle as a Prisoner of War for nineteen, long months!

I am a huge fan of Top Ten lists, they're easy to write, easy to read, and I get to try to be a little witty.  Check out my post from Tuesday, Top Ten Things I Did As A Teenager, But If I Did Now, People Would Think I Was Crazy.  Catchy title, right?

Speaking of high school, this is another one of my all time best friend (BFF, LYLAS, Bestie...all that stuff).  She was one of my very first friends I made when I moved to Wimberley in seventh grade, and she still talks about the lime green dress I had on the first time she met me.  Apparently, I made a fashion statement...or something like that.  Even though we live hours apart now, she's one of those friends I can pick up the phone (or text) anytime and it's like we have never been apart.  We spent so much time together in high school her family became my family.   In fact, if you have ever been to Wimberley, you have probably been to her family's business.  Until just a few months ago, her family owned 7A Resort & Pioneer Town.

But, sorry Jacy, this post isn't about you, it's about your fabulous parents!  Jacy's dad is the Fire Chief in Wimberley.  Wimberley, Texas is one of the most beautiful, picturesque towns ever.  If you haven't been there, schedule a trip.  You will love it!  Unfortunately, last Memorial Day weekend, Wimberley forever changed due to catastrophic flooding.  Businesses were lost, homes were destroyed and lives were taken.  I spent many nights tossing and turning, heartbroken for the town I pridefully call my hometown.  I also worried about my BFF's dad, because I knew he was in the middle of it.  I knew he could handle it, he's Wimberley strong, but I still worried.  You can read all about the flood, the heroes and the victims in this months edition of Texas Monthly Magazine by clicking here.  It is so well written, but it took me a few times to get through it.  It is truly heartbreaking.

(This is a photo of my BFF's Dad from the Texas Monthly article)

Earlier this week, I received a message from Jacy's mom that she was mailing me this Wimberley Strong shirt!  I saw Diddle (Jacy's mom) wearing it last summer when they were here in the Dallas area for a wedding, and I knew I wanted it, but they were sold out.  Then, when I was in Wimberley last fall, I checked again, but they were still sold out.  I was thrilled when Diddle sent this to me this week.  I love it!

SUMMERTIME...

Kendall wrapped up her sophomore year yesterday.  It's hard for me to believe my sweet girl will be a JUNIOR next year.  I could go on and on for days about her, but what I am the most proud of is her compassion.  She is going to do great things; I have no doubt!

This past week has been RAINY, but we managed to squeeze a few summertime activities in.

Like snowcones...

The girl on the left, doesn't care what flavor she gets, as long as it is pink and purple.  The guy on the right likes to mix things up, this particular day he had Dreamsicle.

We also spent that one sunny day we had this week at the pool.  We are looking forward to more sunshine in our future.  Please?  I mean it can't rain forever, can it?  Is this Seattle or Texas?

Remember those cute black sandals I told you about last week from Target?  Well, I haven't been to Target since then to buy them, but I did manage to score these similar sandals from Forever 21.  I am loving them, and they are so comfy!

I received my first Influenster box in the mail this week!  I was so excited to have been chosen to sample these products and share my opinions with you.  If you know me very well, you know I don't go anywhere without something on my lips.  I am usually a big lip gloss person, but this is different.  It's like gloss, but matte.  #VividMatte

The color on the right is called Nude Flush.  To be honest, this is probably not a color I would have normally chosen, because in the tube, it looks a little mauve, but it actually goes on softer.  It's the perfect color when you just need a tint of color, but don't want to over do it.  I foresee this being my go-to lip color this summer.  Think, play date at the park with the kids, a stroll around the neighborhood, or an afternoon at the pool, and yes, I wear lip gloss for all those activities.

The color on the right is called Rebel Red, and is quite a bit more bold.  I don't wear red on my lips very much, but when I blotted it on a tissue a few times, it softened up a bit and became more "wearable" in my opinion.  In fact, if you scroll back up to the picture of me in the Wimberley shirt, I have it on.

I loved how smooth this was to apply and the pleasant smell.  I look forward to trying more of the Vivid Matte colors in the future.

*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Alright, friends, that's all I have for you today.  As always thank you for reading!  I hope you have a fantastic weekend and are able to spend some time with your favorite people.

Emily

I love those sandals. I stopped at Target to buy some this week and ran out of time! That Dollar Spot took up too much of my time right from the start.
I hope you have a wonderfully lazy Summer Break!

  6. Oh my gosh I so want to read this Wimberly article but am thinking I better wait until after work. It was so heartbreaking and I wasn't even associated with the town so I can only imagine. You tell Kendall she is rocking that outfit...and she totally just gave me an outfit idea!! Glad you guys are done for the summer. Cheers!

    1. Shelly, you definitely need to read that article, but make sure you're home...and alone...and have some tissues! It is very well written, though. I told Kendall what you said. She was flattered. :)
