The Yeti vs. Ozark Trail Tumbler

Yeti's are all the rage right now, right?  It's 100 degrees here in Texas in the summertime, we need something to keep our drinks ice cold, but who wants to shell out the big bucks for a cup, when you can get one at your local WalMart, that would do the exact same thing...for a fraction of the cost?

Today, I am putting my husband's Yeti up against my humble Ozark Trail...or as my husband calls it, my Feti (fake Yeti) for a head to head comparison.

The Yeti brand is available at most major sporting good stores.  The 20 ounce tumble, as pictured averages $29.99.  Not a bad price for something to keep your drink cold all day, right?  Well, our friend Ozark Trail retails for $7.74 at WalMart.  But just how similar are they?

First off, I should tell you, the tumblers are sold in stainless steel.  My husband had his tumbler powder coated blue, and I bought a vinyl sticker for mine.

Here's the Ozark Trail logo on my tumbler.

And, here's the Yeti on my husband's...just for you skeptical readers.

I filled each tumbler with the exact same amount of ice cubes (sixteen, if you're curious).

And, put the lid on each.

We're kicking this experiment off at 5:02 with each tumbler, sealed and ready to go!

Three hours later, both cups are holding steady with approximately the same amount of ice.

Seven hours later, they are both half full (or half empty for you Negative Nancy's).

I tried to keep the experiment going for almost a full 24 hours, but I was a few minutes short because we were headed to the pool, and you don't go to the pool without your Feti!

It's pretty much the same, friends!

So, there you have it.  If you're into name brands, go buy the Yeti, BUT if you're looking to save a buck (or $22 bucks), lose things often, or have three children that all have a strong desire for ice cold beverages; head to your local WalMart and buy an Ozark Trail tumbler!

The Ozark Trail tumbler is also available in 30 ounce tumbler for $9.74.  A similar version of the Yeti is available for $39.99.  I haven't put those to a head to head "ice off" but I would imagine the results would be similar.

If you're a coffee drinker, I put my coffee in my 20 ounce tumbler and it keeps it H-O-T, almost ridiculously hot for hours with the lid on.  I've often wondered if I could fill it with queso and tote around my own chips and dip this tailgate season.  That may be an experiment for a different day!

Do you have a Yeti or an Ozark Trail?  Which do you prefer?

I couldn't let you go without bragging on WalMart, just a bit more.  If you're still doing your shopping the old fashioned way, you have to check out WalMart's grocery pickup.  Heck, add the Ozark Trail to your grocery list and kill two birds with one stone!  You can read my full review, the goods and the bads, by clicking here.  If you are sold and want to start today, click here to save $10 on your first pickup order.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

Emily

P.S.  I am linking up with my pal, Beth, and the other lovely ladies for Tuesday Talk!  Check them out!

  1. You have me laughing at this post! =) I love that you put these two cups head to head. My hubby has the Yeti and I have the Ozark Trail, and I love mine just as much as he loves his! I want mine powder coated, but where on earth do you go and get them done!?!?
    Have a great day!!!

    1. I am so glad I ready your comment early. I just realized I called it the "Ozarka" the whole post. Oops! I corrected it now!
There's a local guy that does Powder Coating. I know that's far away for you, but I'll email you his info. I think he ships.

  2. Love it! I have seen several of these comparisons! And they all show the same results... The cups are basically the same different logos!
Now I have the Corkcicle because I needed color in my life:) check them out. But they are $24.99 for the larger tumbler.
And I make vinyl decals for your tumblers. Check out my etsy shop. Link on my blog!

    1. I am definitely going to check out your Etsy shop. We just got the 30 ounce tumblers and are going to order some new vinyl stickers for them.
The Corkcicles are so cute! They would be good to tote around in a purse, too.

  3. We have both a yeti and an ozarka, and they are pretty much the same. I had a really hard time finding the Ozarka because apparently they sell out FAST here in Houston. Finally, I ordered one online for in-store pickup. Great review!

    1. They sell out fast here, too. I had to do the in store pickup for my 20 ounce, but my mom found a huge display of the 30 ounce for me a few weeks ago. I guess word has gotten out about their quality.

  4. Ha! Great little "experiment." I have a Yeti. It was a Christmas gift from Wayne a few years ago and I only drink cold drinks out of mine. Not a coffee drinker.

    1. I feel like a 5th grader doing a science experiment! I should have done a hypothesis first! Ha! It's probably best for cold drinks. The hot drinks are a little too much. I poured some coffee for church the other day, and it wasn't cool enough to drink the whole time we were at Sunday School and church. Next time, I'll add an ice cube to it.

  5. I have a healthy human cup and it is equally amazing... but probably costs the same as the yeti. I got it for free through a blogging post though. Love that you did this test. It is nice to know where you can save a few bucks and not sacrifice quality.

    1. I haven't heard of that brand. I'm sure they are basically the same. It really helps me to drink more water.

  7. Awesome comparison! My husband mentioned he might like the smaller one to bring to the pool, and I noticed that my regular walmart (that didn't have any when I bought mine) has a full display of them out now!

    1. The big one is a bit much to carry around for me. We took our 20 ounce ones to Silver Dollar City (we had a stroller to put them in) and they worked out great. I don't know if I would want to carry the 30 ounce one with me. It's pretty heavy once it has ice in it.

  9. Bha ha ha, the Feti, love it!! My husband loves his yetis so I am so showing him this!!! Great idea!

    1. The best part about the Feti, if you leave it somewhere (like one of my kid's already has) it's not a big loss.

  10. Awesome comparison! I actually wanted a Swell water bottles, but refused to pay the price for one. I ordered an Iconiq one from Amazon for $15 and it does the job pretty darn well, so I'm glad I didn't shell out $25 for the Swell! I need to check out these Ozark tumblers too!

    1. Those Swell bottles look cute, too. I'll have to check those out on Amazon. They would be more convenient for a bag or purse.

  11. Such a great experiment!! I'm always skeptical of spending so much extra money on brand names.. I have a Tervis but would totally go for a Feti if I need another!
