Meet & Greet Monday

It's Meet & Greet Monday, which means I am introducing you to one of my favorite bloggers!  As soon as I stumbled upon Shelly's blog over at The Queen in Between, I knew I had found a "must read!"  Shelly is a fashionista with tons of outfit advice.  She is also a down to earth, loving mom of four beautiful kids, and also hails from the great state of Texas (like me).  And, if you're an Aggie, go ahead and Whoop it up...she works for Texas A&M University.

Shelly is celebrating her two year blogiversary this month and has an amazing giveaway over on her blog today.  Be sure to check it out and celebrate with her.  Let's get this party started...meet my friend, Shelly!

How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to start blogging?

My first blog post was August 1, 2014 and it was so scary but also exciting to finally hit publish! (you can jump over to my blog for a little Blogiversary celebration and register for a giveaway!) I tried blogging in 2009 but only made it through 21 posts before calling it a day as I had zero clue what I was doing.  Once I began following “real” bloggers in the fall of 2013, mainly for fashion related posts, I started thinking this was definitely something I would love.  When I was younger I loved to write and before life became so busy I was also an avid scrapbooker.  The blog has become such a fun space to share my thoughts and perspective as well as keep a diary of our family happenings.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Once I really started to consider blogging I had a constant reel going through my head regarding topics.  I started thinking about how so much of my life was constantly in a state of “in betweens”.  Caught in between raising big kids and little kids, perfectly between a size 8 and size 10, battling with being envious and being grateful and the list goes on and on.  As I sat on a runway headed to NYC in January of 2014 it just hit me and the Queen in Between was officially born.

Of all your posts, which one was your favorite to write and why?

Oh snap, this is hard!!  While my ultimate goal is to touch others and possibly even help them in their own lives, my very favorite posts to write are the ones about my family.  When I write their birthday post or a post about marriage, I really hope it provides a way for them to always look back and know exactly how much I loved them and how proud I am of all of them.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Your mistakes do not define you!  I’m not sure if someone actually said those words to me or I derived it for myself from varying pieces of advice but it is definitely what I would tell just about anyone at any age.

Let’s pretend a big TV executive called you up and wanted to feature you on a popular talk show each week.  Who’s talk show would you want to appear on and what would your segments be about?

I do not do very well off the cuff at all.  While I love watching Kelly Ripa and Kathy and Hoda, I totally think they would make me nervous as hell.  I’m thinking I would need a topic like fitness or parenting or something and I would need to zone in on an area and have some questions provided to me ahead of time!

What are your go to’s?  In other words, I’m going to give you a scenario when you might find yourself in a time crunch…tell me the first thing that pops in your head.

You need an outfit and you only have an hour to find it.  What store is your go to?

I’m heading to one of my favorite boutiques in town!  I’ve come a long, long way when it comes to being able to pull and outfit together but in a crunch I’m going to want the options to be clear and right in front of me.  Plus, I don’t want to show up somewhere and find someone wearing my outfit!  I will more than likely spend way too much money but I will feel pulled together.

Friends are coming over for dinner tomorrow night?  What’s your go to entertaining meal?

More times than not if we have friends coming over we will be grilling burgers or fajitas.  My family's favorite when we get together is my lasagna which is so easy, but so delicious!  I’ve served this for small family gatherings but also for my daughter’s high school soccer team.  Add garlic bread and salad and it’s an easy crowd pleaser.

You’re cleaning house on a Saturday afternoon.  What’s your go to CD or Pandora station?

I’m so going to look ridiculous right now but can you believe I’ve never used Pandora??  I have a wide, wide range of music I love and every bit of it is on my computer in iTunes whether it was from old CD’s or new purchases.  I would definitely turn that sucker on and hit shuffle for a combo of old, new and Texas country.  For some reason I’m hearing Merle Haggard sing Red Bandana right now!

You need to stare mindlessly at the TV to unwind.  What’s your go to TV show?

I always laugh when I receive the question “what is your favorite tv show” because I STILL will choose Friends every single time!  I do not watch a lot of TV anymore but Friends is always one I can watch mindlessly and it doesn’t matter which episode it is there will always be some laughs!

You’re planning a date night (or girl’s night out).  What’s your go to restaurant for a fun time?

Definitely a little Italian restaurant, Luigi’s, here in town.  It is quaint and always has some sort of live music.  There is just enough noise to drown out other people but not so much you cannot hear your date!  Plus, the food is amazing.

You need some encouragement.  Who’s your go to person for a little pick me up?

Definitely my friend Holly and my friend Kelli.  They both know me oh so well but they are both also very different in the way they pick me back up.  Plus they both know when I’m just venting and forgive my crazy.

I loved getting to know you a little bit more, Shelly!  Thank you for letting me give you the third degree!  Fellow bloggers, if you love a good linkup, like me, be sure to check out Shelly's link up...tomorrow!

Don't forget to go wish Shelly a Happy Blogiversary today, and be sure to check her out on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin'.
