National Homemade Cookie Day

Did you know today, October 1st is National Homemade Cookie day?  Lucky for you, you still have time to whip up some of my yummy snickerdoodle cookies to celebrate the day!

I was asked to take some cookies to my daughter's school yesterday to show our teachers how much we appreciate them, so of course I did!  I am so thankful for the amazing school district we live in, and for the teachers my daughter has had through elementary, middle school, and now high school.  Any chance I get to show my appreciation to them, I gladly accept!

If you want a tasty cookie, that could even pass off as breakfast with a cup of Joe...try these...

I LOVE cookbooks!  Thank goodness my mom must have known cookbook reading would be a favorite pastime of mine, and started collecting them for me when I was an infant.  This snickerdoodle recipe is out of a local fire department cookbook from 1982.  Directly across the page was this "very healthy" recipe for "Nutritious Cookies."  It made me laugh because this isn't exactly what I think of as nutritious, 30 years later...

Thank goodness Jane Fonda was around in 1982 to help the ladies burn off all that shortening...and sugar...and brown sugar...and flour...

Have a fabulous Saturday.  Take a little time to smell the homemade cookies!

  1. This looks yummy even though I don't care for snickerdoodle. That's too funny that these were considered healthy and nutritious.

    1. I wasn't a cinnamon fan until recently either. Now I only like it in the fall and winter months. Ha!!

    1. I like to read newer cookbooks with pictures, but I really love older cookbooks like these. There's no shortcuts, everything is homemade! This particular cookbook holds a special place in my heart because it's full of recipes from relatives. I get to reminisce a little, too!
